ATOM Football

Overview

Our program focuses on teaching players aged 8-10 in the current year the fundamentals of football and fitness while at the same time introducing concepts of team work, discipline, respect, and sportsmanship.

Improving SKills

Players focus on foundational athletic skills including running, agile movement, and coordination.

Positional Play

Players are introduced to a variety of positions on both sides of the ball. Due to the time and complexities of learning plays some players will not be cross training in some ball handling positions. Coaches do their best to align players in positions where they have the greatest opportunity for development and success.

Practices & Games

Our home field for practices is located on 44 St SE directly south of 114 AVE SE. Games are  played at Shouldice Park on Sunday’s at 10 or 12. Some scrimmages may be held at our field or other teams fields.

Equipment

All equipment is provided except for football cleats. If you are tying the sport our at camp, soccer cleats are fine. Football cleats are required if you register for the regular season.

Fundraising and Community

As we are 100% self funded, fundraising plays an important role in keeping this program running year to year. Our efforts always involve the players and we make it fun for them. Players are also educated on giving back to their community by giving a portion of our funds to local charitable programs that can change from season to season.

Frequently Asked Questions
ATOM Edition

Costs can change from year to year and is not firm until registration and certification begins. A budget of $400 should be observed. Everything is included except for cleats.

If you are looking to have your fees subsidized by a local agency we have included that in our payment options.

The only equipment you have to buy are cleats and even then we have a box of used ones you are welcome to try. Due to seasonal availability your player may also wear soccer cleats until they can source a pair of football cleats.

Please talk with the Head Coach if you plan on being away more than 1 week in August.

In August, we practice a minimum of 3 weeknights and 1 weekend depending on any scrimmages that we may schedule.  Starting in September we reduce practices to twice a week, with a game on Sunday.

Absolutely NO.  Players in ATOM require a parent or guardian to be at the field, practice or game, 100% of the time. If you cannot do this, please do not register your child. In situations where you are stuck, and have to be in two places at once, your choice is to talk to the Head Coach or Team Manager before practice and see who could be assigned to take responsibility for your child in your absence, such as another parent. Failure to abide by this policy will result in removal of the player from the team. Please contact us with any questions around this policy.

The game schedule is not released until September so that the league knows how many teams are playing. All games will be on Sunday.

Once registered, any player requesting a refund will be assessed a $50 fee. Refunds are then processed according to the following schedule:

On or before August 15 – 100% less $50 fee
Aug 15 Sep 1 – 50% less $50 fee
The deadline for any refund is Sep 1.
No refund will be issued for players withdrawing after Sep 1.

Stampeder Minor Football is a volunteer organization and needs the support of every parent in our program. Every participant in the program is required to have his/her parent/guardian work a volunteer shift. If you are unable to do this yourself, you may have someone else (18 years or older) work your shift for you. We appreciate your support.

The quick answer is YES. The reality is that coaches will guide your player to a position that best suits their abilities and can help out the team the most.  Being a team sport the best answer is always “wherever you need me, coach”. We do try to accommodate player requests and usually players have more than one position at ATOM. However, with skill positions like QB, it can be difficult allowing too many players to try due to the amount of practice and repetitions involved to learn the position.

ATOM football is a pure development program for the players. As such, our coaching staff will do their best to divide playing time equally.  This can be a difficult to achieve given some positions require specific skills and knowledge to be practiced, such as quarterback. Also, the number of players at a game can determine the overall playing time but the goal is to ensure everyone is playing.

If you have concerns about your child’s playing time, PLEASE, approach your Head Coach or parent rep at our practice field and NOT after a game.
