Pee Wee Football

Ages 11-12 in current year.

Overview

Full contact competitive football program for children aged 11-12 not turning 13 in the current year. Our program focuses on teaching players the fundamentals of football and fitness while at the same time introducing concepts of team work, discipline, respect, and sportsmanship.

Equipment

All equipment is provided except for football cleats. If you are trying the sport out at a non-contact camp, soccer cleats are fine. Football cleats are required if you register for the regular season.

Evaluations

Tryouts offer a crucial opportunity for young athletes to showcase their skills and abilities in front of coaches and other evaluators.  Coaches have to make tough decisions and sometimes have to choose only a few players from a large pool of talented candidates, including those with similar skill sets and sizes. However, it is important to remember that other teams are available if the child is released from the first team. Ultimately, tryouts are a valuable experience for all children, whether they make the team or not. Parents should encourage their children to participate and enjoy the process, no matter what the outcome may be.

Practices & Games

Our home field for practices is located on 44 St SE directly south of 114 AVE SE. Games are  played at Shouldice Park on Saturday’s starting in late August. Practices are 3/weekday.

Commitment

Football is the ultimate team sport and requires everyone engaged on a regular basis. This translates to a better team experience for the player, and a safer playing environment for everyone due to better training. Our policies regarding attendance are explained at our first parent meeting and also in depth with players. We use this experience to teach players to be accountable and responsible.

Fundraising and Community

As we are 100% self funded, fundraising plays an important role in keeping this program running year to year. Our efforts always involve the players and we make it fun for them. Players are also educated on giving back to their community by giving a portion of our funds to local charitable programs that can change from season to season.

Frequently Asked Questions
PeeWee Edition

Costs can change from year to year and is not firm until registration and certification begins. A budget of $450 should be observed. Everything is included except for cleats.

If you are looking to have your fees subsidized by a local agency we will provide options available to you after tryouts.

The only equipment you have to buy are cleats and even then we have a box of used ones you are welcome to try. Due to seasonal availability your player may also wear soccer cleats until they can source a pair of football cleats.

Certification is a very important part of registration! It is the League’s process for verifying and authenticating every player’s age and address as true and correct for play.

CERTIFICATION IS MANDATORY IN ORDER TO PLAY.

It is simply a matter of capacity. We have one team and a max roster we can carry. We position ourselves as agents of the league trying to find a team for players to participate.

Please talk with the us if you plan on being away more than 1 week in August. It is not a deal breaker but understanding the impact on the players development compared to the rest of the team is important.

In August, we practice a minimum of 3 weeknights and 1 weekend depending on any scrimmages that we may schedule.  Starting in September we practice 3 weeknights with a Game on Saturday.

Yes for practices as long as we can reach you and you return 10 minutes prior to the end of practice. For games, someone must be present. This is a league rule.

The game schedule is provided via teamsnap to all players following the registration period.

Once registered, any player requesting a refund will be assessed a $50 fee. Refunds are then processed according to the following schedule:

On or before August 15 – 100% less $50 fee
Aug 15 – League Registration Day – 50% less $50 fee

No refund will be issued after league registration day which is just prior to the first game.

Stampeder Minor Football is a volunteer organization and needs the support of every parent in our program. Every participant in the program is required to have his/her parent/guardian work a volunteer shift. If you are unable to do this yourself, you may have someone else (18 years or older) work your shift for you. We appreciate your support.

The quick answer is YES. The reality is that coaches will guide your player to a position that best suits their abilities and can help out the team the most.  Being a team sport the best answer is always “wherever you need me, coach”.

The quick answer is no but for many reasons. First, starting at Pee Wee, unit positions are broken down to starters and backups. It is a reality that many first year players are not starters and will not see as much game time. However, this can change week to week and even within a game.

We try to ensure that every player sees the field every game but due to possession times on offense and defense it is impossible to ensure play time is equal. Also, if we feel a player is not ready for safe contact due to a bad week of practice or attendance, they will probably not see the field.

If you player lands a backup role in their first year, and you have questions, please talk to the Head Coach for more clarity.
